Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Wail (وَيْلٌ): A word indicating severe destruction, ruin, and intense suffering. It is both a declaration of doom and a supplication against the disbelievers.
  • Yawma-idhin (يَوْمَئِذٍ): "On that Day" — referring to the Day of Judgment, the Day of Decision and Recompense.
  • Lil-mukadhdhibīn (لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ): "For the deniers" — those who reject the truth, deny the resurrection, and disbelieve in what the messengers brought from Allah.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse is a powerful and terrifying declaration that echoes like a thunderclap through the heart: *"Woe on that Day to the deniers!"* It comes as a recurring refrain in Surah Al-Mursalat, striking like a hammer upon the ears of those who turn away from the truth.

The meaning is profound: on the Day when the stars are extinguished, when the sky is split asunder, when the mountains are scattered like dust, and when the messengers are gathered at an appointed time — on that Day, utter destruction and ruin will befall those who denied the truth. They denied the resurrection, they mocked the messengers, and they rejected the signs of Allah that were so clearly placed before them.

The word "Wail" carries within it the weight of every punishment, every regret, and every loss imaginable. It is a valley in Hell — as some scholars have noted — or a state of intense suffering that encompasses the denier from every direction. On that Day, there will be no escape, no intercessor, and no second chance.

For those who denied the coming of this Day, who lived their lives as if they would never be held accountable, who heard the call of the messengers and turned away in arrogance — for them, this verse is both a warning and a promise. The promise of Allah is true, and His justice is absolute.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, let this verse awaken something within you. The One who created the heavens and the earth, who set the stars in their courses and the mountains as firm anchors — He has promised that this Day will come. The deniers will face the consequence of their denial, but the believers — those who submit to Allah, who follow His messengers, and who live righteously — for them is a reward beyond imagination.

This verse is not merely a threat; it is a mercy. It is Allah telling us, *before* that Day arrives, so that we may turn back to Him. The door of repentance is open, the path of guidance is clear, and the mercy of Allah is vast. Do not be among the deniers. Be among those who believe, who strive, and who hope for the mercy of their Lord. For indeed, on that Day, the believers will be in gardens and springs, enjoying what their Lord has given them — and that is the ultimate success.

📜 Verse 13-17 — Al-Mursalat

13لِيَوْمِ الْفَصْلِ
For the Day of Judgement.
14وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ
And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?
15وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
16أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Did We not destroy the former peoples?
17ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ الْآخِرِينَ
Then We will follow them with the later ones.
