Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- تَتْبَعُهَا – follows it, comes right after it.
- الرَّادِفَةُ – the second blast (the one that follows the first), derived from *radafa* meaning "to come in succession" or "to follow closely."
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse completes the scene of the Day of Resurrection, describing the sequence of events that will overtake all of creation. After the first trumpet blast—the one that causes death and convulses the earth—there comes a second blast that immediately follows it. This second blast is the blast of life, the resurrection, when all souls are restored to their bodies and rise from their graves to stand before their Lord.
The word *rādifah* carries the sense of something that "rides on the heels" of another, meaning there is no gap, no delay, no chance to prepare or repent. The first shock will barely have struck when the second one arrives, leaving no room for escape or second thoughts. This is a direct and powerful reminder that the afterlife is not a distant, uncertain possibility—it is a certainty that will unfold without warning, and when it begins, it will happen in rapid succession.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on the precision of this divine description. The One who informs us of these events is the Creator Himself, who has no need to exaggerate or deceive. He tells us that the end of this world is not a slow, gradual process we can control, but a sudden, decisive transition. The first blast will shake the earth and end life as we know it; the second will bring us back, not for a second chance, but for the ultimate reckoning.
This verse is an invitation—a loving, urgent call from your Lord—to wake up before that day arrives. The Quran does not present these truths to frighten you into despair, but to guide you into action. Every good deed you do, every sin you avoid, every step you take toward Allah is a treasure you are sending ahead for that moment when the second blast follows the first. Do not let the distractions of this world make you forget that the *rādifah* is real and near. Turn to your Creator now, with sincerity and repentance, and let this knowledge transform your heart into one that yearns for His pleasure. For on that day, the only thing that will benefit you is the faith and righteousness you cultivated in this brief life.
