Surah Al-Anfal — Verse 69

Tafsir (Explanation):

After the Battle of Badr, some believers had taken ransom from the captives of war, and a concern arose in their hearts—was this permissible? Allah, in His infinite mercy, addresses this directly: "So eat from what you have gained as spoils of war—lawful and good." This is a clear permission and a reassurance that what they acquired was not only lawful but also pure and blessed. The word *halalan* removes any doubt or guilt, while *tayyiban* emphasizes that it is wholesome and free from any taint.

Then comes the essential command: "And fear Allah." This is a call to remain conscious of Him in all matters—to uphold His commands, avoid His prohibitions, and ensure that every action, including the acquisition of wealth, is done within the boundaries He has set.
