Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- عَلِمَتْ – knew with certainty, realized fully
- نَفْسٌ – every soul, each individual self
- مَّا أَحْضَرَتْ – what it has brought forward (i.e., the deeds it prepared and sent ahead for the Hereafter)
Explanation of the Verse:
When the sun is wrapped up and its light is extinguished, when the stars fall and scatter, when the mountains are set in motion and become like dust, when the pregnant camels are left untended, when the wild beasts are gathered together, when the seas are set ablaze, when the souls are paired with their likes, when the girl buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed, when the scrolls of deeds are spread open, when the sky is stripped away, when Hellfire is kindled to its fullest blaze, and when Paradise is brought near for the righteous — at that moment, every soul will come to know, with absolute certainty, exactly what it has sent ahead for that Day. Every good deed and every evil deed, every word spoken, every intention held, every act done in secret or in public — all of it will be laid bare, and the soul will see its harvest, whether for its benefit or against it.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse is a profound reminder that we are not living aimlessly. Every moment of our lives is a seed we plant, and the Day of Resurrection is the harvest. The One who created the heavens and the earth, who will roll up the sun and scatter the stars, is the same One who has promised to hold us accountable — not out of cruelty, but out of perfect justice and mercy. Imagine standing before your Lord, seeing every deed you brought forward, and realizing that nothing has been forgotten. What a beautiful motivation to fill our days with goodness, sincerity, and love for Allah! Let this verse awaken in your heart a longing to prepare for that meeting — for the one who prepares well will find joy beyond imagination, while the one who neglects will find regret. Turn to Allah now, seek His forgiveness, and let every action you take be one you would be proud to present on that mighty Day.
