Surah Al-Ghashiyah — Verse 10

Word Meanings:

• Jannah (جَنَّةٍ): A garden of immense beauty, lush greenery, and perpetual bliss—the eternal Paradise prepared for the believers.
• ʿĀliyah (عَالِيَةٍ): Lofty, elevated, and exalted—both in physical height and in rank, honor, and dignity.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse paints a breathtaking scene of the final destination of the righteous. After describing the faces of the believers on the Day of Judgment—faces radiant with joy, content with their efforts in this world, and glowing with the light of their faith—Allah now reveals where they will reside: "In a lofty Garden."

This Garden is not merely a place of physical elevation, rising high above the horizons, but it is also exalted in its spiritual station, its beauty, and the honor bestowed upon its inhabitants. It is a Paradise that surpasses every imagination—a place where no vain or harmful speech is heard, where rivers of pure water flow endlessly, where couches are raised high, cups are set at hand for the drinkers, cushions are arranged in perfect rows, and rich carpets are spread beneath their feet. Every detail speaks of comfort, peace, and generosity beyond measure.

The elevation of this Garden reflects the elevated state of those who enter it. Just as they raised their aspirations in this world—seeking Allah’s pleasure through obedience, patience, and sincerity—so too are they raised in the Hereafter to a station of honor that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever conceived.

Dear reader, pause for a moment and reflect: this lofty Garden is not a distant dream—it is a reality awaiting those who strive. Every prayer you offer, every kindness you extend, every temptation you resist for the sake of Allah is a step that raises you toward that exalted abode. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told us that Paradise is surrounded by hardships, while Hellfire is surrounded by desires. So do not be discouraged by the difficulties of this world; they are temporary, but the Garden is eternal. Let your heart yearn for that high place, and let your deeds today be the ladder that carries you there. For Allah, the Most Merciful, has opened its gates wide for those who turn to Him with sincerity—and He never breaks His promise.
