Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Tawallaw (تَوَلَّوْا): They turn away — meaning they turn their backs on faith and refuse to accept the message.
- Hasbiya Allah (حَسْبِيَ الله): Allah is sufficient for me — He is my enough, my protector, and my provider of all needs.
- Tawakkaltu (تَوَكَّلْتُ): I have placed my trust and reliance — entrusting all affairs to Him alone.
- Al-‘Arsh al-‘Azim (الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ): The Mighty Throne — the greatest of all creations, which encompasses the universe and symbolizes Allah’s supreme sovereignty.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, if those who reject the truth — the polytheists and hypocrites — turn away from you and refuse to believe in what you have brought, do not grieve and do not despair. Instead, say to them and to yourself: "Allah is sufficient for me." He alone is enough to protect me, support me, and fulfill all my needs. There is no deity worthy of worship except Him — no god, no lord, no savior besides Him. Upon Him alone I place my complete trust, and to Him I entrust all my affairs, for He is my Helper and my Guardian. He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne — the greatest and most magnificent of all creations — and if He is your Lord and Protector, then you lack nothing and no one can harm you.
A Da‘wah Reflection:
This verse is a profound lesson in reliance on Allah (tawakkul) — a treasure for every believer. When people turn away from you, when the world feels heavy, and when you stand alone in the path of truth, remember: Allah is sufficient. You do not need the approval of people when you have the Lord of the Throne on your side. This is the secret of inner peace — to know that your sufficiency, your victory, and your honor come from Allah alone. So, dear reader, make this your daily supplication: "Hasbiya Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, ‘alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul-‘Arshil-‘Azim." Let it fill your heart with courage, your mind with tranquility, and your soul with unshakable faith. For whoever relies on Allah, He is truly enough — and He never abandons those who trust in Him. Embrace this verse, live by it, and you will find that no rejection, no hardship, and no enemy can ever diminish your strength.
