📖 English Meaning
If you do not aid the Prophet - Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." And Allah sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah - that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.

Key Words and Phrases:

(Thāniya ithnayn): The second of two — meaning one of two, with no third person present.
(Al-Ghār): The cave — specifically the cave of Thawr, a mountain near Makkah, where the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr hid from the pursuing Quraysh.
(Sakīnatahu): His tranquility — a deep sense of peace and calmness that Allah sent down to settle the heart.
(Ayyadahu): Strengthened and supported him.
(Junūdin lam tarawhā): Armies you did not see — the angels who came to aid and protect the Prophet ﷺ.
(Kalimata alladhīna kafarū al-suflā): The word of the disbelievers made the lowest — their call to disbelief and falsehood was humiliated and defeated.
(Kalimatullāhi hiya al-ʿulyā): The word of Allah is the highest — His call to faith, truth, and justice prevails above all.

Explanation of the Verse:

O believers! If you fail to support the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — if you hesitate when he calls you to strive in His cause, or abandon him in times of hardship — know that Allah Himself is his Protector and Supporter. He has already demonstrated this in the most critical moment of his life.

Recall the scene: when the disbelievers of Quraysh plotted to kill the Prophet ﷺ and expelled him from his beloved city, Makkah. He fled with his closest companion, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and the two sought refuge in the cave of Thawr. There they were — just two men, hiding in a dark crevice of a mountain, while the enemy searched for them relentlessly. Abu Bakr, fearing for the life of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, was overcome with anxiety. At that very moment, the Prophet ﷺ, calm and unwavering, comforted him with words that echo through eternity: "Do not grieve; indeed, Allah is with us."

These words were not mere optimism — they were a declaration of absolute trust in Allah’s protection. And Allah honored that trust. He sent down His tranquility upon them, calming their hearts and removing all fear. He reinforced His Messenger ﷺ with unseen armies — angels who shielded them from the eyes of the pursuers and cast terror into the hearts of the enemies.

The outcome was decisive: Allah made the word of the disbelievers the lowest — their plots, their pride, and their call to falsehood were utterly humiliated. And His own word — the call to faith, justice, and truth — was raised to the highest station. Islam emerged stronger, and the enemies were left in disgrace.

Allah is Mighty in His dominion — no one can overcome His will — and He is Wise in all His decrees, orchestrating every affair with perfect knowledge and purpose.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a timeless lesson in reliance upon Allah. When the Prophet ﷺ was in that cave, with the enemy at the very entrance, human reasoning would have said: "This is the end." But the Prophet ﷺ taught us that Allah’s support is not limited by circumstances. When you stand for truth, Allah stands with you — even when all doors seem closed, He opens ways you never imagined.

Dear reader, if you are facing trials today — whether in your faith, your livelihood, or your personal struggles — remember this scene. The same Allah who protected His Messenger in the darkness of that cave is with you. Place your trust in Him, speak the truth, and never let fear dictate your actions. Allah’s word will always rise above the noise of falsehood, and His help is nearer than you think.

And let us honor the legacy of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, whose companionship and sacrifice in that cave earned him a rank that no other companion reached. His story reminds us that true support of Allah’s cause requires courage, loyalty, and unwavering faith — qualities that elevate a believer in this life and the next.

📜 Verse 38-42 — At-Tawbah

O you who have believed, what is [the matter] with you that, when you are told to go forth in the cause of Allah, you adhere heavily to the earth? Are you satisfied with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of worldly life compared to the Hereafter except a [very] little.
If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment and will replace you with another people, and you will not harm Him at all. And Allah is over all things competent.

Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah. That is better for you, if you only knew.
Had it been an easy gain and a moderate trip, the hypocrites would have followed you, but distant to them was the journey. And they will swear by Allah, "If we were able, we would have gone forth with you," destroying themselves [through false oaths], and Allah knows that indeed they are liars.
