Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Fā-rghab (فَارْغَب): To turn with desire, hope, and earnest longing; to direct one's aspiration and supplication toward someone. It implies a heartfelt yearning combined with humility and trust.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse concludes Surah Ash-Sharh with a profound and beautiful directive: "And to your Lord, alone, turn all your desire and hope." After the previous verses reassured the Prophet (peace be upon him) of relief after hardship and ease after difficulty, this final command redirects the believer's heart toward its ultimate goal—Allah, the Most High.
The verse teaches us that when you have completed your worldly tasks and fulfilled your responsibilities—whether in worship, work, or daily life—do not let your heart remain attached to the transient affairs of this world. Instead, channel your deepest aspirations, your hopes, and your pleas toward your Lord alone. Turn to Him with sincere devotion, placing your complete trust in Him, and seeking what is with Him of goodness, mercy, and reward. This is the essence of true reliance (tawakkul) and humble supplication (du'a): to recognize that all good comes from Him, and to Him alone we direct our desires.
A Call to the Heart:
Dear believer, this verse is a gentle yet powerful reminder that your heart was created to yearn—and the only One worthy of that yearning is Allah. When you feel the weight of your worries, when your efforts seem insufficient, or when you long for something better in this life and the next, make your Lord your first and final resort. Raise your hands to Him, pour out your heart to Him, and trust that He hears, He knows, and He responds in ways beyond your imagination. The One who brought you out of difficulty will never abandon you when you turn to Him with sincere hope. So, make your connection with Allah your greatest treasure, and let your hope in Him be the light that guides you through every trial. Indeed, in turning to Him lies the peace your soul seeks and the victory your heart desires.
