Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Afṭarāhu (افتراه): He fabricated it or invented it falsely, attributing to Allah what is not from Him.
  • Bi-sūratin mithlih (بسورة مثله): A single chapter resembling the Qur'an in its eloquence, wisdom, and guidance.
  • Min dūni Allāh (من دون الله): Other than Allah, such as idols, jinn, or any created beings.
  • Ṣādiqīn (صادقين): Truthful in your claim that the Prophet (peace be upon him) invented this Book.

Tafsir (Explanation):

The disbelievers of Makkah, despite witnessing the unparalleled beauty and wisdom of the Qur'an, stubbornly claimed that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had fabricated it himself. They knew he was an unlettered man who had never composed poetry or prose of this caliber, yet they persisted in their false accusation. Allah, the Most Merciful, responds to their claim with a challenge that proves His divine word beyond any doubt.

He commands His Prophet to say to them: "If you truly believe I have invented this Book, then bring just one chapter like it. Call upon all the eloquent poets, skilled orators, and wise men you can gather—your idols, your allies, even the jinn—to help you compose something similar. You are Arabs, masters of the Arabic language, and you know its depths better than anyone. If you are truthful in your claim, then produce your proof."

This challenge was not merely rhetorical; it was a decisive test. The Arabs of that era were renowned for their linguistic mastery, holding poetry competitions and taking pride in their eloquence. Yet, when faced with this challenge, they could not produce even a single verse comparable to the Qur'an—not then, not ever. This inability, despite their utmost efforts, stands as a timeless miracle proving that the Qur'an is not the work of any human, but the very speech of Allah, the Creator of all.

Beloved reader, reflect on this profound truth: The Qur'an has remained unchallenged for over fourteen centuries. No one has ever met its challenge, and none ever will, for it is the living word of Allah, preserved for the guidance of humanity until the end of time. This is not merely a historical fact—it is an invitation for you to open your heart to this Book, to read it with sincerity, and to discover the light it brings to every soul that seeks the truth. The same Qur'an that silenced the eloquent Arabs continues to transform hearts today, offering peace, purpose, and a direct connection to your Creator. Embrace it, and you will find that it speaks to you as clearly as it spoke to them—because it is the eternal message of the One who knows you better than you know yourself.

📜 Verse 36-40 — Yunus

And most of them follow not except assumption. Indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what they do.
And it was not [possible] for this Qur'an to be produced by other than Allah, but [it is] a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of the [former] Scripture, about which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds.
Or do they say [about the Prophet], "He invented it?" Say, "Then bring forth a surah like it and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides Allah, if you should be truthful."
Rather, they have denied that which they encompass not in knowledge and whose interpretation has not yet come to them. Thus did those before them deny. Then observe how was the end of the wrongdoers.
And of them are those who believe in it, and of them are those who do not believe in it. And your Lord is most knowing of the corrupters
