Tafsir (Explanation):
After Allah had reunited Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) with his family, and after he had witnessed the fulfillment of his long-awaited dream — with his parents bowing before him in respect, and his brothers seeking his forgiveness — Yusuf did not become arrogant or attached to the fleeting pleasures of this world. Instead, his heart remained firmly connected to his Lord. He knew that the kingdom of Egypt, with all its splendor and power, would eventually fade away, and that true success lies in the Hereafter. So he turned to Allah with a humble and sincere supplication, saying:
"My Lord, You have indeed granted me authority and kingship over Egypt, and You have taught me the interpretation of dreams and visions. You have given me from Your vast knowledge and from Your immense power — not everything, but enough to guide me and to fulfill Your purpose through me. O Originator of the heavens and the earth, the One who created everything from nothing, You alone are my Guardian and Protector in this worldly life and in the life to come. I place my complete trust in You, and I submit my entire affair to You. So, when my time comes, cause me to die as a Muslim — one who is sincerely submitted to You — and join me with the righteous, with my forefathers Ibrahim, Ishaq, and Ya'qub, and with all Your righteous servants in the highest paradise."
This beautiful supplication teaches us a profound lesson: no matter how much success, wealth, or power we achieve in this world, we must never forget our ultimate destination. Prophet Yusuf was given the treasures of Egypt, yet he asked Allah for the treasures of the Hereafter. He was a king, yet he humbled himself before his Creator. He had everything this world could offer, yet he yearned for what Allah had prepared for the righteous.
Dear reader, reflect on this: if a prophet of Allah, with all his status and power, still feared for his end and prayed for a good death, how much more do we need to make this same supplication? Let us learn from Yusuf's example — let us use whatever blessings Allah has given us to draw closer to Him, and let us always pray: "My Lord, cause me to die as a Muslim, and join me with the righteous." This is the prayer of those who truly understand that this world is but a passing shadow, and that the real life is the life of the Hereafter. May Allah grant us all a good end and admit us among His righteous servants. Ameen.
