Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the story of Al-Khidr and Prophet Musa (peace be upon them), where Al-Khidr explains the wisdom behind killing the young boy. He says: "As for the boy, his parents were true believers." This highlights the profound mercy and foresight of Allah’s decree. The boy, though young, was destined in Allah’s eternal knowledge to grow into a disbeliever. His parents, on the other hand, were sincere in their faith, and their love for their son was deep and natural.
Al-Khidr explains that they feared—meaning they knew through Allah’s revelation—that if the boy remained alive, his overwhelming influence, combined with his parents’ intense love and need for him, would drag them into transgression and disbelief. The boy’s rebellious nature and his eventual path of kufr would have led his loving parents to follow him, either out of blind affection or out of dependence on him, thereby corrupting their faith and plunging them into ruin.
Thus, by Allah’s wisdom, the boy was taken before this calamity could occur. In his place, Allah would grant his parents a better child—one who would be pure, compassionate, and a source of goodness and faith for them. This act, though seemingly harsh to human perception, was an act of divine mercy, protecting the parents’ faith and granting them a greater blessing.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse teaches us a profound lesson about trusting Allah’s wisdom, even when His decrees seem difficult to comprehend. As believers, we must remember that Allah’s knowledge encompasses all things—past, present, and future—while our understanding is limited. What appears to be a loss may be a hidden mercy, and what seems like a hardship may be a shield against greater harm.
Let this story inspire you to place your complete trust in Allah, especially during trials. Know that every decree of Allah is filled with wisdom and care for His servants. The parents in this story lost a son, but they gained a better one and preserved their faith—the most precious treasure of all. So, hold firm to your faith, and never let love for anyone or anything lead you away from the path of Allah. Indeed, in every twist of fate, there is a lesson, a mercy, and a door to a greater good.
