Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Taaboo (تَابُوا): They returned to Allah in sincere repentance, turning away from their sin.
- Aslahoo (أَصْلَحُوا): They rectified and mended their deeds, both outwardly and inwardly.
- Bayyanoo (بَيَّنُوا): They made clear and openly disclosed what they had previously concealed.
Explanation of the Verse:
After the preceding verses condemned those who concealed the clear proofs and guidance that Allah had revealed, and who spread corruption through their concealment, this verse opens the door of hope and mercy. Allah, in His infinite compassion, makes an exception for those who meet three conditions:
First, they must repent — turning back to Allah with sincere regret for their past actions, abandoning the sin, and resolving never to return to it. This repentance is not merely a word uttered by the tongue, but a genuine transformation of the heart.
Second, they must rectify what they had corrupted. This means amending their deeds, purifying their intentions, and setting right the damage they caused — whether in their relationship with Allah or with His creation.
Third, they must openly declare and make known the truth they had previously hidden. They must now proclaim the guidance and clear signs they once suppressed, undoing the harm of their concealment by spreading the light of knowledge.
For such people, Allah promises: "Those — I will accept their repentance." This is a divine guarantee from the Lord of the worlds, the One whose mercy encompasses all things. And He describes Himself as At-Tawwab — the One Who repeatedly accepts repentance, turning His servants' sins into good deeds through His grace — and Ar-Raheem — the Most Merciful, Who showers His compassion upon them after they turn to Him.
A Call to the Reader:
How beautiful is this verse! It teaches us that no matter how great the sin, the door of repentance remains open. Even those who concealed divine truth — a grave offense — are not beyond the reach of Allah's mercy if they sincerely turn back. So what of those whose sins are lesser?
O servant of Allah, never despair of His mercy. Your Lord is At-Tawwab — He loves those who repent and rejoices in their return. He does not merely forgive; He transforms your misdeeds into blessings. Come back to Him today, rectify your affairs, and speak the truth openly. For He has promised: "I will accept your repentance" — and the One Who makes this promise never breaks it.
