Key Words and Phrases:

  • Kafarū (كَفَرُوا): Those who disbelieved, rejected the truth, and concealed it.
  • Mātū wa hum kuffār (مَاتُوا وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ): Died while persisting in that disbelief, without repenting before death.
  • La‘nah (لَعْنَةُ): Being cast out and banished from Allah’s mercy; a curse.
  • Al-Malā’ikah (الْمَلَائِكَةِ): The angels.
  • An-Nās ajma‘īn (النَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ): All of humanity collectively.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse delivers a decisive and solemn declaration about those who reject faith, conceal the truth, and remain in that state of disbelief until the very moment of their death—without ever turning back in repentance. For such people, the door of forgiveness has closed, and their fate is sealed with a comprehensive curse.

This curse is not limited to one source; rather, it encompasses the entire universe of creation. Allah, the Almighty, curses them by banishing them from His mercy and grace. Then the angels—those pure and obedient servants of Allah—join in this curse, praying for their exclusion from divine compassion. Finally, all of humanity, from the first to the last, will curse them as well. On the Day of Judgment, even the wrongdoers themselves will curse other wrongdoers, and in doing so, they will unknowingly curse their own souls, adding to their ruin.

This verse serves as a powerful warning that disbelief, when clung to until death, leads to total and absolute loss. The curse of Allah, the angels, and all people signifies complete alienation from every source of mercy and hope. It is a state of utter despair and eternal deprivation.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse is not meant to fill your heart with fear alone, but to awaken you to the urgency of repentance and the boundless mercy of Allah that is available to you right now—before death approaches. As long as you are alive, the door of repentance is wide open. Allah, in His infinite kindness, waits for His servants to return to Him. Do not delay, do not let pride or procrastination hold you back. Turn to your Lord today, with a sincere heart, and He will replace your sins with good deeds, and your distance with closeness. The curse mentioned here is for those who die upon disbelief—but you, O seeker of truth, still have the precious gift of time. Seize it, and let this warning be the spark that ignites your journey back to Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving.

📜 Verse 159-163 — Al-Baqarah

Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Scripture - those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse,
Except for those who repent and correct themselves and make evident [what they concealed]. Those - I will accept their repentance, and I am the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.
Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - upon them will be the curse of Allah and of the angels and the people, all together,
Abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.
And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
