Explanation of the Verse:
O you who have truly believed in Allah and followed His Messenger! Eat from the pure, lawful, and wholesome provisions that Allah has granted you—those foods and blessings that are halal and beneficial. Do not be like those who forbid what Allah has made lawful or who consume what He has prohibited. And be grateful to Allah for His immense favors upon you—gratitude that flows from the heart in acknowledgment, from the tongue in praise, and from the limbs in obedience. This gratitude means using His blessings in ways that please Him, performing His commands, and avoiding what He has forbidden. If you are truly His sincere worshippers, devoted to Him alone without any partner, then let your eating and your thanking reflect that devotion.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This noble verse is a gentle yet powerful reminder that our daily sustenance is not merely a matter of survival—it is a gift from the Most Merciful, and how we consume it is a test of our faith. When you eat from what is halal and pure, you are not just feeding your body; you are nourishing your soul and strengthening your connection to your Creator. Gratitude is the key that unlocks more of Allah's blessings, for He has promised: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]" (Ibrahim 14:7). So let every bite you take be a moment of remembrance, and every blessing you enjoy be a reason to draw closer to Allah. This is the way of the true believer—one who eats with mindfulness, thanks with sincerity, and worships with devotion. May Allah make us among those who truly appreciate His gifts and use them in ways that earn His pleasure.
And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing." Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided?
The example of those who disbelieve is like that of one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries cattle or sheep - deaf, dumb and blind, so they do not understand.
He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Indeed, they who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price - those consume not into their bellies except the Fire. And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them. And they will have a painful punishment.
