📖 English Meaning
So they defeated them by permission of Allah, and David killed Goliath, and Allah gave him the kingship and prophethood and taught him from that which He willed. Word Meanings:

  • "Fahazamūhum": They defeated them and put them to rout.
  • "Jālūt": Goliath, the mighty warrior-king of the Philistines.
  • "Al-Mulk": Sovereignty, kingship, and political authority.
  • "Al-Ḥikmah": Prophethood, wisdom, and sound judgment.
  • "Dafʿ": Repelling, pushing back, or restraining.

Explanation of the Verse:

By Allah’s permission and divine support, the believers—though few in number and lightly armed—routed the massive, heavily equipped army of Goliath. Their faith, patience, and reliance on Allah turned the tide of battle. Then, the young shepherd-warrior David (Dawūd, peace be upon him) stepped forward and killed Goliath, the tyrant commander whose strength had terrorized armies. This single act broke the morale of the enemy and sealed their defeat.

After this victory, Allah bestowed upon David (peace be upon him) both kingship and prophethood—a unique combination not granted to anyone before him among the Children of Israel. Previously, kingship belonged to one tribe and prophethood to another, but Allah united them in David. He also taught him whatever He willed, including the craft of making chainmail armor, which David would craft and sell, living honorably from the labor of his own hands. Thus, Allah granted him what would benefit both his worldly life and his hereafter.

The verse then draws a profound universal lesson: were it not for Allah’s decree that some people—the believers and the righteous—would repel the corruption and aggression of others—the tyrants and the wicked—the earth would be filled with chaos and ruin. Evil would spread unchecked, oppression would dominate, and the foundations of life would crumble. But Allah, in His infinite mercy and wisdom, uses the believers as a shield for humanity, preserving order and justice. Indeed, Allah is the Owner of abundant favor upon all His creation, and His wisdom in managing the affairs of this world is beyond human comprehension.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

This verse is a living testimony to the power of faith and the certainty of Allah’s help for those who stand for truth. When you face challenges in your life—whether personal struggles, societal pressures, or even the weight of your own shortcomings—remember that victory comes not from numbers or resources, but from sincere reliance on Allah. Just as a young David defeated a giant with faith and divine support, you too can overcome the "giants" of despair, sin, and hardship by turning to Allah with a pure heart.

Moreover, this verse reminds you of your role in this world: to be among those who "repel" corruption and spread goodness. Every act of kindness, every word of truth, every stand against injustice—no matter how small—is part of Allah’s grand design to preserve the earth from ruin. Do not underestimate your impact. Be a source of light in your family, your community, and your society. And know that Allah’s favor is boundless; He does not abandon those who strive in His cause. So rise, act, and trust in Him—for His help is always near.

📜 Verse 249-253 — Al-Baqarah

And when Saul went forth with the soldiers, he said, "Indeed, Allah will be testing you with a river. So whoever drinks from it is not of me, and whoever does not taste it is indeed of me, excepting one who takes [from it] in the hollow of his hand." But they drank from it, except a [very] few of them. Then when he had crossed it along with those who believed with him, they said, "There is no power for us today against Goliath and his soldiers." But those who were certain that they would meet Allah said, "How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allah. And Allah is with the patient."
And when they went forth to [face] Goliath and his soldiers, they said, "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."
So they defeated them by permission of Allah, and David killed Goliath, and Allah gave him the kingship and prophethood and taught him from that which He willed. And if it were not for Allah checking [some] people by means of others, the earth would have been corrupted, but Allah is full of bounty to the worlds.
These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you, [O Muhammad], in truth. And indeed, you are from among the messengers.
Those messengers - some of them We caused to exceed others. Among them were those to whom Allah spoke, and He raised some of them in degree. And We gave Jesus, the Son of Mary, clear proofs, and We supported him with the Pure Spirit. If Allah had willed, those [generations] succeeding them would not have fought each other after the clear proofs had come to them. But they differed, and some of them believed and some of them disbelieved. And if Allah had willed, they would not have fought each other, but Allah does what He intends.
