Explanation of the Verse:
In this blessed verse, Allah Almighty declares His absolute Oneness and His exclusive right to worship. He says: "Indeed, I am Allah — there is no deity worthy of worship except Me." This is a direct and profound statement of Tawheed (monotheism), affirming that all forms of worship — prayer, supplication, sacrifice, trust, and love — belong to Him alone, with no partner or associate.
Then He commands: "So worship Me" — meaning devote your worship exclusively to Allah, and do not direct any part of it to anyone or anything else. This is the very purpose of creation, as Allah says elsewhere: "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me" (Adh-Dhariyat: 56).
Then He specifically commands the establishment of prayer: "And establish the prayer for My remembrance." The prayer (Salah) is singled out here because it is the greatest pillar of Islam after faith itself, and it is the most comprehensive act of worship. It includes recitation of the Qur'an, glorification of Allah, bowing, prostration, and supplication — all of which are forms of remembering Allah. The verse indicates that the purpose of prayer is to keep the servant connected to his Lord, to remember Him at all times, and to find tranquility and peace in that remembrance.
This command was given to Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) at the sacred valley of Tuwa, as part of his divine commissioning. It is a timeless message for all believers: the foundation of our relationship with Allah is recognizing His Oneness, worshipping Him sincerely, and maintaining the prayer as a constant reminder of Him in our daily lives.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder the beauty of this verse: Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, introduces Himself to you and invites you to know Him, worship Him, and remember Him. He does not need our worship — rather, it is we who need Him. When you stand in prayer, you are not performing a ritual; you are having a private conversation with your Lord, who says in a sacred hadith: "I am with My servant when he remembers Me, and his lips move with My mention."
The prayer is your daily appointment with Allah — five times a day, He calls you to come and remember Him, to leave your worldly concerns and stand before Him in humility. In that moment, your sins are forgiven, your heart is purified, and your soul is elevated. It is the key to peace in this life and salvation in the next.
So, dear brother and sister in humanity, respond to this divine call. Say: "I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah," and establish your prayer with sincerity and devotion. Let your heart find rest in His remembrance, for indeed, "in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest" (Ar-Ra'd: 28). This is the path of the prophets, the way of the righteous, and the key to eternal success.
