Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Yaqul minhum" — Whoever says among them, meaning among all of creation, including angels and humans.
  • "Ilāh min dūnihi" — A deity besides Him, i.e., claiming divinity alongside Allah or in place of His exclusive right to worship.
  • "Najzīhi Jahannam" — We will repay him with Hellfire as his recompense.
  • "Al-Ẓālimīn" — The wrongdoers, specifically those who commit injustice by placing worship and divinity in other than their rightful place.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse delivers a decisive and emphatic message about the absolute exclusivity of Allah’s divinity. It states that if anyone — even an angel, despite their high rank and closeness to Allah — were to claim, "I am a god besides Allah," that person would be repaid with Hellfire. This is stated hypothetically to underscore the severity of the sin, because in reality, angels are far above such a claim, being honored servants who never disobey Allah’s commands. The verse then generalizes the principle: "Thus do We repay the wrongdoers" — meaning that anyone who commits the ultimate injustice of associating partners with Allah, or who dares to claim divinity for themselves or others, will receive the same punishment. This is a universal law of divine justice that applies to all creation, regardless of status, rank, or lineage.

The wisdom here is profound: no being, no matter how exalted in the sight of Allah, has any share in divinity. Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer, and the Only One worthy of worship. The verse serves as a stern warning against all forms of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and any claim that elevates a created being to the level of the Creator. It also comforts the believers by affirming that divine justice is absolute and inescapable — no wrongdoer will escape recompense, and no act of injustice, whether great or small, is overlooked by Allah.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this divine declaration. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has made His Oneness crystal clear so that no one may have an excuse. He does not need partners, helpers, or intermediaries in His dominion — He is Al-Wāḥid (The One), Al-Aḥad (The Unique). This verse invites you to purify your heart from any trace of associating others with Allah, whether in worship, love, fear, or hope. It reminds us that true success lies in submitting wholly to Allah alone, and that the path of tawḥīd (monotheism) is the path of peace, justice, and eternal salvation. Embrace this truth with sincerity, and let it transform your life into one of devotion, gratitude, and unwavering trust in the One who created you, sustains you, and will judge you with perfect fairness. Indeed, the reward for those who uphold His Oneness is Paradise, and the recompense for those who wrong themselves by denying it is Hellfire — so choose wisely, for the choice is yours, and the outcome is eternal.

📜 Verse 27-31 — Al-Anbiya

They cannot precede Him in word, and they act by His command.
He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves. And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive.
And whoever of them should say, "Indeed, I am a god besides Him"- that one We would recompense with Hell. Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.
Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?
And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided.
