Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Meanings:
- رَتْقًا (Ratqan): A single joined or sealed mass, with no separation or gap between them.
- فَفَتَقْنَاهُمَا (Fafataqnāhuma): We split them apart and separated them from one another.
- كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ (Kulla shay'in hayy): Every living thing, including plants, animals, and humans.
Explanation of the Verse:
Have those who disbelieve not seen and realised that the heavens and the earth were once a single joined entity, sealed together with no gap between them? There was no rain descending from the sky, and no vegetation sprouting from the ground. Then, by His infinite power and wisdom, Allah split them apart, separating the heavens and the earth, and from that separation came the rain from above and the growth from below.
Furthermore, Allah made from water every living thing. Water is the origin and sustainer of life; without it, nothing could exist, grow, or thrive. This is a sign that is visible to all, yet how many pause to reflect?
So, will they not believe? Will they not look at the world around them and see the undeniable evidence of their Creator? The One who split the heavens and the earth, and who made water the source of all life, is the only One worthy of worship. The signs are clear, the proof is overwhelming, and the invitation is open—so why turn away from the truth?
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, this verse is not merely a historical statement; it is a living miracle that modern science has only recently come to understand. The Qur'an spoke of the "big bang" and the watery origin of life centuries before telescopes and microscopes revealed these truths. This is a call to open your heart and mind. Look at the sky above, the earth beneath your feet, and the water that gives life to everything around you. Every drop of rain, every leaf that sprouts, every heartbeat you feel is a sign from Allah. He is the One who created, the One who sustains, and the One who deserves your gratitude and worship. Do not let pride or stubbornness veil your eyes from the obvious truth. Embrace faith, and you will find peace, purpose, and a connection with your Creator that transcends this worldly life. The door of mercy is wide open—so why not step through it today?
