Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Haqq (الحق): The Absolute Truth, the One whose existence is certain and whose divinity is undeniable.
- Al-Batil (الباطل): That which is false, perishable, and has no real foundation or lasting substance.
- Al-Aliyy (العلي): The Most High, exalted above all creation in His essence, power, and authority.
- Al-Kabir (الكبير): The Great, the Supreme, the One who is greater than everything and to whom belongs all majesty and grandeur.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse comes as a powerful conclusion to the preceding discussion of Allah's perfect power—how He causes the night to enter into the day and the day to enter into the night, and how He is the All-Hearing and All-Seeing. The verse establishes the ultimate reason behind all divine actions and the fundamental truth that underlies the entire universe.
Allah declares: "That is because Allah—He is the Truth." This means that everything connected to Allah is truth: His existence is the ultimate reality, His religion is the truth, His promise is true, His victory for the believers is true, and His worship is the only worship that is right and valid. He alone deserves to be worshipped, for He is the Creator, the Sustainer, and the Sovereign of all that exists. There is no deity worthy of worship except Him.
Then Allah states: "And that what they call upon besides Him—that is falsehood." The idols, the false gods, the fabricated deities that the polytheists worship and invoke—whether they are statues, stones, celestial bodies, or righteous people elevated to divine status—are all pure falsehood. They have no reality, no power, no benefit, and no harm. They cannot create, they cannot provide, they cannot forgive, and they cannot guide. They are utterly devoid of any divine attribute, and their worship is built upon nothing but illusion and error. How can one who is himself created and dependent be worshipped alongside the Creator who is independent of all things?
Finally, Allah says: "And that Allah—He is the Most High, the Great." He is exalted above His creation in His essence, in His power, and in His dominion. He is far above any resemblance to His creatures, far above having any partner or equal, and far above any deficiency or imperfection. His greatness encompasses everything, and nothing is greater than Him. His majesty, His glory, and His perfection are absolute and beyond comparison.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, contemplate this profound truth: the entire universe operates upon truth and reality, and the One who runs it is the Truth Himself. Every blessing you enjoy, every breath you take, every heartbeat within you—all are from the Truth, the Most High, the Great. So why would you turn to falsehood when the Truth is so evident? Why would you worship that which cannot even protect itself, when the One who protects the heavens and the earth is calling you to Him?
This verse invites you to align your life with truth, to anchor your heart to the One who never changes, never fails, and never disappoints. When you worship Allah alone, you are connected to the source of all power and mercy. When you rely on Him, you rely on the One who is greater than every problem, every fear, and every challenge you face. And when you know Him as the Most High, the Great, your heart finds peace in His majesty, and your soul finds rest in His remembrance.
So come to the truth, for the truth is beautiful, and the One who is Truth is the most beautiful of all. Come to Allah, and you will find everything you have ever truly been searching for.
