Explanation of the Verse:
This is the powerful declaration of the magicians of Pharaoh after they witnessed the undeniable miracle of Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him). When Pharaoh threatened them with severe punishment—cutting off their hands and feet and crucifying them—they responded with unwavering faith and courage. They said: "We truly hope and earnestly desire that our Lord will forgive us our sins, because we were the first to believe in Musa and to affirm his message in your time, O Pharaoh."
Their statement reflects a profound spiritual transformation. They had spent their lives practicing sorcery to deceive people, but in a single moment of truth, they recognized the reality of Allah's power and the truth of Musa's prophethood. They did not fear Pharaoh's threats, because they had found something far greater: the hope of Allah's forgiveness and the promise of eternal reward. They acknowledged their past sins—including their former practice of magic and their previous disbelief—and they placed their complete trust in Allah's mercy, hoping that He would pardon them because they had sincerely embraced faith and were among the very first to do so in that generation.
This verse teaches us that sincere faith and repentance can erase even the heaviest burdens of sin. The magicians, who were once enemies of the truth, became among its most devoted champions. Their hope for forgiveness was not based on their own merit, but on the boundless mercy of Allah, who accepts the repentance of all who turn to Him with sincerity.
A Da'wah Reflection:
How beautiful is this scene! Those who were once deceived by falsehood became the foremost in truth. Their hope in Allah's forgiveness gave them strength to face the most terrifying threats. This is the essence of Islam: no matter how dark your past may be, the door of Allah's mercy is always open. The moment you sincerely believe and turn to Him, He wipes away your sins and elevates your rank. Do not let your past mistakes hold you back from embracing the truth. Allah's mercy is greater than any sin, and His love for those who return to Him is beyond measure. Take this lesson to heart: the first step toward Allah's forgiveness is sincere faith, and no one is ever too far gone to be forgiven.
