Key Words and Phrases:

  • "Aswi" (أَسْرِ): Travel by night, specifically setting out under the cover of darkness.
  • "Bi'ibadi" (بِعِبَادِي): "My servants" — a title of honor and endearment from Allah to the believers among the Children of Israel.
  • "Muttaba'un" (مُتَّبَعُونَ): "You will be pursued" — meaning that Pharaoh and his forces would follow after them.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah Almighty reveals His divine command to His Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, at a critical turning point in the story of oppression and liberation. After years of suffering under the tyranny of Pharaoh — who had enslaved the Children of Israel, killed their sons, and spared their daughters — the time had come for deliverance.

Allah commanded Musa to take the believers among the Children of Israel and depart from Egypt secretly, under the veil of night. This was not merely a strategic military maneuver; it was a divine plan unfolding with precision. The phrase "My servants" is profoundly significant — it is a title of honor and closeness, reminding the believers that despite their long years of humiliation, they were always under Allah's care and protection. They were His chosen servants, and He would never abandon them.

The words "you will be pursued" carried both a warning and a promise. It was a warning that Pharaoh and his army would not let them go without a fight — they would chase them relentlessly to bring them back into bondage. But it was also an implicit promise: Allah knew what was coming, and He was already preparing the next stage of the plan. The pursuit would not end in their destruction; rather, it would become the very means by which Allah would demonstrate His power and destroy the tyrant.

This verse teaches us profound lessons about trust in Allah during times of transition and difficulty. When the command came to leave, the believers did not know the full picture — they did not know that the sea would part before them, or that Pharaoh and his army would drown. They simply obeyed, walking into the darkness of the night with faith in their hearts. And Allah, in His infinite wisdom, turned that night journey into one of the greatest miracles in human history.

For the believer today, this verse is a reminder that when Allah commands us to move — whether in our personal lives, our communities, or our spiritual journey — we must obey with confidence, even when we cannot see the full outcome. Allah's plan is always perfect. He sees the end from the beginning, and He never abandons His sincere servants. The night may be dark, and the pursuers may be close, but the One who commands the night and the day, the sea and the land, is with you — and His victory is inevitable.

This is also a call to reflect on the nature of true leadership and faith. Musa, peace be upon him, did not negotiate with Pharaoh or seek his permission. He received his orders from the One who owns all power, and he executed them with unwavering resolve. Likewise, the believers did not hesitate or question — they followed their prophet into the unknown, trusting that the same Allah who had heard their cries for centuries was now answering them in the most magnificent way.

May Allah grant us the same certainty of faith, the same readiness to obey, and the same trust in His divine plan — for He is the Best of Planners, and His promise is always true.
