Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "This is the creation of Allah" – refers to everything mentioned previously in the Surah: the heavens, the earth, the mountains, the animals, and all the wonders of existence.
- "Show Me" – a rhetorical challenge, meaning: bring proof and demonstrate.
- "Those besides Him" – the false deities and idols that the polytheists worshipped.
- "Clear misguidance" – an evident error, a deviation from truth that is unmistakable and obvious to anyone with sound reasoning.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, may He be exalted, points to the magnificent universe around us — the vast skies, the firm earth, the towering mountains, the flowing rivers, and every living creature — and declares: "This is the creation of Allah." Everything you see, from the smallest atom to the greatest galaxy, is the handiwork of the One God, the All-Powerful Creator.
Then comes the divine challenge, addressed to those who worship idols and false gods: "Show Me what those besides Him have created." This is an invitation to proof — a call to bring forth any creation, however small, that their idols have produced. The challenge is clear: if your deities are truly worthy of worship, then show us what they have made. But the answer is obvious — they have created nothing, for they themselves are created. They cannot benefit, cannot harm, cannot give life, and cannot cause death.
The verse concludes with a decisive statement: "But the wrongdoers are in clear misguidance." Those who persist in worshipping false gods despite this overwhelming evidence are not merely mistaken — they are in a state of manifest error, a deviation so clear that no one with sound intellect could miss it. They have turned away from the truth while knowing it, and they have chosen falsehood over guidance.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on the world around you. Every sunrise that paints the sky, every breath you take, every heartbeat within you — all of this is the creation of Allah alone. No idol, no statue, no false deity has ever created even a single leaf or a single drop of rain. So why would you turn away from the Creator who sustains you, and bow instead to creations that cannot even protect themselves?
The Qur'an invites you to use your intellect, to observe, and to reason. The evidence of Allah's existence and His perfect power is all around you — in the heavens above, in the earth beneath your feet, and within your very own soul. Open your heart to this truth, and you will find peace, purpose, and the ultimate success in this life and the Hereafter. Let this verse be a reminder that true guidance lies in submitting to the One who created you, and that there is no misguidance greater than turning away from Him.
