Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Nuhyee – We give life / We resurrect.
  • Ma qaddamoo – What they have sent forth (their deeds during their lifetime).
  • Aathaarahum – Their traces/legacies (the effects of their deeds that continue after their death, whether good or bad).
  • Ahsaynaahu – We have counted/enumerated it (completely recorded).
  • Imaamim mubeen – A clear record/register (the Preserved Tablet, al-Lawh al-Mahfuz).

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this profound verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) declares His absolute power and perfect justice: "Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life" — a direct affirmation that resurrection is not only possible but certain, for the One who created life from nothing can surely restore it after death. This is a promise of the Day of Judgment, when all humanity will stand before their Lord for reckoning.

Then Allah states: "And We record what they have sent forth and their traces." This means that every deed a person performed during their earthly life — whether good or evil — is being written down in full detail. But more than that, Allah also records "their traces": the ongoing impact of their actions that continues after they leave this world. If a person leaves behind a righteous legacy — such as a pious child who prays for them, beneficial knowledge that guides others, ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah), or a good example that others follow — these are written to their credit even after death. Conversely, if they leave behind a harmful legacy — such as spreading corruption, establishing a bad practice, or leading others astray — these sins continue to be recorded against them. This is a powerful reminder that our influence does not end with our last breath; we are continuously shaping our eternal record through what we leave behind.

Finally, Allah says: "And everything We have enumerated in a clear register." Nothing is forgotten, nothing is overlooked. Every atom's weight of good or evil is accounted for in the Preserved Tablet (al-Lawh al-Mahfuz), which is the master record of all that has been and all that will be. This comprehensive recording should fill the believer with both hope and caution: hope, because no good deed, however small, is ever lost; and caution, because no evil deed, however hidden, will escape the reckoning.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse awakens the heart to a profound reality: you are writing your own eternal story every single moment. Your life is not a fleeting illusion — it is a book being written, page by page, with every action, every word, and every intention. And the most beautiful part? You have the power to make that book continue to grow in goodness even after you depart from this world. Plant seeds of righteousness today — raise your children upon faith, share beneficial knowledge, establish ongoing charity, and be a source of goodness to others. These are the treasures that will accompany you to your grave and beyond. And know with certainty that your Lord, who resurrects the dead with perfect ease, has not forgotten a single moment of your striving. So strive for what truly matters, and let your legacy be one that will make your scales heavy with light on the Day you meet your Creator.

📜 Verse 10-14 — Yasin

And it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.
You can only warn one who follows the message and fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness and noble reward.
Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register.
And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it -
When We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened them with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you."
