Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Kadhdhabūhu (كَذَّبُوهُ): They denied him, rejected his message, and called him a liar.
  • Lamuhḍarūn (لَمُحْضَرُونَ): They will surely be brought forth, gathered, and made to attend — referring to their being summoned for punishment and accountability.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse tells us about the fate of the people of Prophet Ilyās (Elias, peace be upon him). Despite his sincere calls to worship Allah alone and to abandon their idolatrous practices, his people responded with outright rejection and denial. They refused to believe his message and persisted in their disobedience.

The verse then delivers a decisive and powerful consequence: "Then indeed, they will surely be brought forth" — meaning they will be gathered and presented for the reckoning and the punishment on the Day of Judgment. Their denial was not without consequence; it sealed their fate, and they will be summoned before Allah to face the full weight of their rejection.

This is a profound reminder that no one who rejects the truth escapes accountability. Allah’s justice is absolute, and every soul will be brought forward to answer for its deeds. However, as the broader context of this passage clarifies, the sincere servants of Allah — those who purified their faith and devoted themselves solely to Him — are saved from this punishment and granted safety.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse carries a timeless lesson for every generation. The people of Ilyās had every opportunity to believe, yet they chose denial — and their end was inevitable. But you, today, have been given the gift of knowledge and the chance to respond to the truth while there is still time. Do not let arrogance or stubbornness distance you from the path of guidance. The door of repentance is open, and Allah’s mercy is vast. Respond to His call now, before the day comes when you are brought forth — for on that day, no excuse will avail, and no intercession will benefit except for those who believed and did righteous deeds.

Embrace the truth with a humble heart, and you will be among those who are saved, not among those who are gathered for punishment. The choice is yours, and the time is now.
