Word Meanings:

  • Salām (سَلَامٌ): Peace, safety, security, and a greeting of honor and blessing from Allah.
  • Al-Mursalīn (الْمُرْسَلِينَ): The Messengers sent by Allah to guide humanity—those chosen to deliver His revelation and establish His worship.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse is a divine declaration of peace and safety upon all of Allah’s Messengers, from the first to the last of them. It is an eternal greeting of honor from Allah Himself, encompassing His praise, protection, and blessing for every prophet and messenger who faithfully conveyed His message to their people. The verse comes as a general affirmation after the Quran had specifically mentioned some of the Messengers by name earlier in the same chapter (Sūrah As-Saffāt), such as Nūḥ, Ibrāhīm, Mūsā, Hārūn, Ilyās, Lūṭ, and Yūnus (peace be upon them all). By following those specific mentions with this comprehensive salutation, Allah makes it clear that His peace and commendation extend to every single Messenger—known to us or unknown—who carried the torch of monotheism and delivered Allah’s commandments with sincerity and patience. This is a profound honor that elevates the Messengers above all creation, affirming their success in their mission and the acceptance of their sacrifice.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, when Allah—the Lord of the Worlds—grants His peace and praise to the Messengers, He is also sending you a message of hope and mercy. These Messengers were human beings who faced immense hardship, rejection, and trials, yet they remained steadfast. Their reward from Allah was not merely worldly success, but this eternal divine salutation that echoes through time. This verse invites you to love and respect all the Messengers equally, to follow their example of patience and devotion, and to recognize that the path they walked—the path of submission to Allah alone—is the path to true peace in this life and the Hereafter. Just as Allah honored them for their perseverance, He promises His peace and mercy to every believer who strives to live by their guidance. Let this verse fill your heart with tranquility, knowing that the religion of Islam is built upon the legacy of these noble souls, and that by embracing it, you are connected to a chain of divine mercy that began with the first Messenger and continues until the Last Day. May Allah make us among those who honor His Messengers by following their guidance, and may He grant us His peace in this world and the next.
