Surah Az-Zukhruf — Verse 80

• Najwāhum (نَجْوَاهُمْ): Their private conversations — what they secretly discuss among themselves in hushed tones.

• Rusulunā (رُسُلُنَا): Our messengers — here referring to the noble angels appointed as scribes.
• Ladayhim yaktubūn (لَدَيْهِمْ يَكْتُبُونَ): Are with them, recording — the angels are present with every person, writing down all deeds.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Do these polytheists who reject the truth truly imagine that Allah does not hear what they keep hidden within their hearts, or the secret whispers they exchange among themselves in private gatherings? Do they think that their scheming against the Prophet ﷺ and their mockery of the revelation escapes His knowledge? How foolish is this assumption!

Yes indeed — Allah hears every single word, whether spoken aloud or breathed silently within the soul. Nothing is hidden from Him, not even the faintest thought that crosses the mind. Moreover, He has appointed noble angels — the scribes (Kirāman Kātibīn) — who are always present with every human being, recording every utterance and every action. These angels write down all that is said and done, whether open or concealed, so that nothing is lost.

This verse serves as a profound reminder that we are never alone. Every secret we keep, every private conversation we have, every intention we harbour — all of it is witnessed and recorded. The One who created us knows us better than we know ourselves, and His angels are faithfully documenting our deeds for the Day when every soul will be held accountable for what it has earned.

The One who hears your secret prayers and knows your hidden struggles is the same One who will reward you for every good intention, even if no human ever sees it. So turn to Him with confidence, speak to Him in your solitude, and let the awareness of His presence transform your life into one of beauty and purpose. For indeed, nothing escapes Him — and that is the greatest comfort for the believer and the greatest warning for the heedless.
