Surah Ad-Dukhan — Verse 46

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse describes the state of the food of the people of Hellfire — specifically, the tree of Zaqqum, which is the accursed tree mentioned in the Qur'an. Its fruit, which the sinners will be forced to eat, will boil inside their bellies just as scalding water boils with extreme heat. The comparison here is vivid and terrifying: just as water bubbles and churns when it reaches its maximum temperature, so too will this cursed food seethe and churn within the stomachs of the wrongdoers, causing them unbearable agony.

This imagery serves as a powerful warning to humanity. The punishment of the Hereafter is not a distant or abstract concept — it is a reality described in the most concrete and visceral terms so that we may reflect and turn back to our Lord before it is too late. The Qur'an does not exaggerate; it speaks the absolute truth, and every word of it is precise and purposeful.

If the boiling of hot water on this earth is already so painful to touch, how then will it be when the very food of the sinners boils like that within their bodies? Allah, in His infinite mercy, has sent us this warning so that we may choose the path of righteousness, seek His forgiveness, and attain the eternal bliss of Paradise — where rivers flow, gardens bloom, and peace reigns forever. Do not let this warning pass you by. Turn to Allah today, with a sincere heart, and He will forgive you and guide you to the best of outcomes. Indeed, His mercy is greater than His wrath, and His door of repentance is open until the very last moment of your life.
