Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Kitābunā (كتابنا): Our Book — the record of deeds written by the appointed angels.
- Yanṭiqu (ينطق): Speaks — meaning it testifies or bears witness with clear, undeniable evidence.
- Nastansikh (نستنسخ): We cause to be copied/written down — meaning We command the recording angels to transcribe every deed.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, Allah will address humanity with a profound truth: "This is Our Book that speaks against you with absolute truth." This Book is the perfect, comprehensive record of every action, word, and even hidden intention that each soul performed during their earthly life. Nothing is missing, nothing is added, and nothing is altered — it is an exact replica of one's deeds, preserved by the noble scribes (the recording angels) whom Allah commanded to write down everything.
The verse emphasizes that this testimony is not based on memory or hearsay; rather, it is a living, speaking witness that presents the complete reality of one's life. The angels were instructed to transcribe every moment — the good and the bad, the apparent and the concealed. This divine record serves as undeniable proof, leaving no room for denial or excuse on that Day.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, ponder this magnificent truth: every breath you take, every word you utter, and every step you walk is being carefully recorded. Nothing escapes the knowledge of your Lord, and nothing is forgotten. This is not to frighten you, but to awaken your heart to the beauty of accountability. Imagine the peace of mind when your record is filled with kindness, charity, patience, and remembrance of Allah — what a joy it will be to read your own book on that Day!
The Qur'an tells us that the believers will be given their books in their right hands and will exclaim with delight, "Here, read my record!" (Al-Haqqah 69:19). So let this verse inspire you to fill your pages with deeds that will make you proud — a sincere prayer, a helping hand, a forgiving heart, a word of truth. These are the treasures that will speak for you when you need them most.
And if you have fallen short, know that the door of repentance is wide open. Allah, in His infinite mercy, replaces sins with good deeds for those who turn back to Him sincerely. Do not delay — for every moment is an opportunity to write a new, beautiful chapter in your eternal record. Let this verse be your gentle reminder that you are never alone, and that your Lord is always watching over you with love and justice.
