وَالَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا زَادَهُمْ هُدًى وَآتَاهُمْ تَقْوَاهُمْ ۝١٧

Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

اهْتَدَوْا (ihtadaw): Those who sought and followed the path of guidance—the truth of Islam.
زَادَهُمْ هُدًى (zādahum hudā): He increased them in guidance—adding more insight, clarity, and firmness to their faith.
وَآتَاهُمْ تَقْوَاهُمْ (wa ātāhum taqwāhum): And He granted them their piety—enabling and facilitating righteousness, God-consciousness, and the ability to avoid sin.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah, the Most High, describes the beautiful state of those who willingly embrace the truth and follow the message of His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). For these sincere seekers, Allah does not leave them to their own devices; rather, He blesses them with an increase in guidance. Their hearts become more illuminated, their understanding deepens, and their steps are made firmer upon the straight path. This is a divine gift—the more a person turns to Allah, the more Allah draws them closer to Him.

Furthermore, Allah grants them *taqwa*—a profound sense of God-consciousness that acts as a protective shield. This piety is not merely a feeling; it is a practical reality. Allah inspires them to perform righteous deeds and to abstain from what leads to His displeasure, thereby safeguarding them from the Fire and guiding them toward eternal success. This is a promise of divine support: whoever takes one step toward Allah, Allah takes multiple steps toward them, easing their journey toward goodness and granting them the strength to overcome their desires and weaknesses.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

This verse is a source of immense hope and motivation for every believer. It teaches us that guidance is not a static achievement but a continuous journey. If we sincerely commit to the truth, Allah will open for us doors of understanding and wisdom we never imagined. He will not leave us to struggle alone; instead, He will equip us with the very tools we need to live a life of piety and righteousness. So, hold fast to your faith, increase your knowledge, and act upon what you know—for Allah, in His infinite mercy, promises to multiply your guidance and bless you with the strength to remain steadfast. This is the path to true peace in this life and everlasting bliss in the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 15-19 — Muhammad

15مَّثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ فِيهَا أَنْهَارٌ مِّن مَّاءٍ غَيْرِ آسِنٍ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِّن لَّبَنٍ لَّمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِّنْ خَمْرٍ لَّذَّةٍ لِّلشَّارِبِينَ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِّنْ عَسَلٍ مُّصَفًّى ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ كَمَنْ هُوَ خَالِدٌ فِي النَّارِ وَسُقُوا مَاءً حَمِيمًا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَاءَهُمْ

Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord, like [that of] those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?

16وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا خَرَجُوا مِنْ عِندِكَ قَالُوا لِلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ مَاذَا قَالَ آنِفًا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ طَبَعَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ

And among them, [O Muhammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge, "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones of whom Allah has sealed over their hearts and who have followed their [own] desires.

17وَالَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا زَادَهُمْ هُدًى وَآتَاهُمْ تَقْوَاهُمْ

And those who are guided - He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness.

18فَهَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا السَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً ۖ فَقَدْ جَاءَ أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚ فَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمْ إِذَا جَاءَتْهُمْ ذِكْرَاهُمْ

Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then what good to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance?

19فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ وَمَثْوَاكُمْ

So know, [O Muhammad], that there is no deity except Allah and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allah knows of your movement and your resting place.
