Explanation of the Verse:
This verse delivers a powerful, rhetorical rebuke to those who claim faith but may be tempted to abandon the path of Allah. Allah asks: "If you turn away from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him), is it not expected of you that you will spread corruption in the land and sever your family ties?"
The question is not a genuine inquiry but a stern warning. It exposes the reality of human nature when separated from divine guidance. History bears witness—before Islam, the Arabs lived in a state of chaos, shedding blood over trivial matters, burying their daughters alive, and cutting off relatives over pride or greed. When they turned away from the truth, corruption and broken families became their hallmark.
The verse also carries a broader meaning: if you are given authority or leadership and you turn away from Allah's commands, your rule will inevitably lead to moral decay, injustice, and the fragmentation of society. The strongest bonds—those of blood and kinship—would be torn apart by selfishness and enmity.
This is a call to reflect: true faith is not merely a word on the tongue but a commitment that keeps hearts soft, families united, and societies upright. When faith weakens, corruption spreads like a disease, and the first casualty is often the family—the very foundation of a healthy community.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is a timeless reminder of the mercy of Islam. Allah does not simply forbid corruption; He gives us a complete system that preserves life, honor, and family ties. Imagine a society where every person honors their parents, cares for their relatives, and refrains from harming others—this is the beauty Islam cultivates. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him maintain his family ties" (Al-Bukhari). So hold fast to the Qur'an and Sunnah, for they are the ropes that keep us from falling into the abyss of division and ruin. Let your faith be a source of unity, not only with your Lord but with your family and community. The path of guidance is open—will you not take it?
