📖 English Meaning
And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.

  • Iqtatalu (اقْتَتَلُوا): Fought each other, engaged in armed conflict.
  • Baghat (بَغَتْ): Acted aggressively, transgressed, or wrongfully rebelled against the other.
  • Tafi'a (تَفِيءَ): Returns, comes back, or submits.
  • Aqsitu (أَقْسِطُوا): Be just and fair, act with equity.

The Interpretation:

This noble verse addresses a critical situation within the Muslim community: conflict between two believing groups. When two parties of believers fight each other, Allah commands the rest of the believers to step in and make peace between them. This is not merely a recommendation—it is a communal obligation. The first step is to call both sides to return to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be upon him), and to accept His judgment in their dispute.

However, if one of the two groups persists in aggression and refuses to submit to Allah's ruling, then the believers are commanded to fight against the transgressing group—not out of hatred or vengeance, but as a necessary measure to stop injustice and bring them back to Allah's command. This fighting continues until the aggressors relent, return to the truth, and submit to the judgment of Allah and His Messenger.

Once the transgressing group returns and abandons its aggression, the believers must immediately cease fighting and reconcile between the two parties with complete fairness and justice. They are to judge between them with equity, without favoring one side over the other, and without exceeding the limits set by Allah. The verse concludes with a beautiful and profound statement: "Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly."

This verse beautifully demonstrates that Islam is a religion of peace and justice. It shows how the Muslim community is like one body—when one part suffers, the whole body responds. The ultimate goal is always reconciliation, but justice must first be established. The aggressor cannot be rewarded for their transgression, nor can the oppressed be left without support. This is the balance of Islamic justice: peace with justice, and justice with mercy.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear brothers and sisters in faith, this verse carries timeless lessons for us all. It teaches us that even in the most difficult circumstances—when believers themselves fall into conflict—the solution is not division or abandonment, but sincere mediation, firmness against oppression, and fairness in resolution. How beautiful is this religion that commands us to be peacemakers, yet does not allow injustice to prevail!

Let us internalize this divine guidance in our personal lives, our families, and our communities. When disputes arise, be the one who initiates reconciliation. When you see oppression, stand firmly against it—but always with the aim of bringing the oppressor back to the truth, not destroying them. And when you judge between people, be scrupulously fair, for Allah loves those who are just.

The promise at the end of the verse is a source of immense hope: Allah's love for the just. What greater honor could a believer aspire to than to be among those whom Allah loves? Strive to be from the Muqsitin—those who establish justice in their words, their judgments, and their actions. Indeed, this is the path to Allah's pleasure and His eternal reward.

📜 Verse 7-11 — Al-Hujurat

And know that among you is the Messenger of Allah. If he were to obey you in much of the matter, you would be in difficulty, but Allah has endeared to you the faith and has made it pleasing in your hearts and has made hateful to you disbelief, defiance and disobedience. Those are the [rightly] guided.
[It is] as bounty from Allah and favor. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.
The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.
O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.
