Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Fadlan (فَضْلًا): Grace, bounty, or favor bestowed by Allah.
- Ni‘mah (وَنِعْمَةً): Blessing or benefaction.
- ‘Alīm (عَلِيمٌ): All-Knowing; He knows everything, including the hidden states of His servants.
- Ḥakīm (حَكِيمٌ): All-Wise; He places everything in its perfect and appropriate position.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse concludes the previous statement about Allah making faith beloved to the believers and beautifying it in their hearts, while making disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience hateful to them. That transformation—this profound shift in a person’s innermost desires and values—is not something a human being can achieve by their own effort or willpower. It is purely a grace and a blessing from Allah, bestowed upon those whom He loves. He grants them the sweetness of faith, guides their hearts to embrace truth, and shields them from the allure of sin.
This is a tremendous favor, for the greatest blessing a person can receive is not wealth or status, but a heart that finds peace in obedience to Allah and discomfort in disobedience. It is Allah’s kindness that He opens this door for His servants, and it is His wisdom that He knows precisely who is sincere in seeking Him and who is deserving of this divine support. He is All-Knowing of the conditions of the believers—their struggles, their sincerity, and their hidden intentions—and He is All-Wise in how He distributes His grace, granting it to whom He wills and withholding it from whom He wills, according to His perfect knowledge.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause and reflect: if you find in your heart a love for goodness, a desire to pray, a longing to read the Qur’an, and a distaste for sin—know that this is not a small matter. It is a sign of Allah’s favor upon you. Treasure it, protect it, and thank Allah for it, for this is the seed of eternal success. And if you feel distant from this state, do not despair—turn to Allah in supplication, for He is the One who transforms hearts. Ask Him to make faith beloved to you, just as He did for the believers before you. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing of your sincerity and All-Wise in responding to your call.
