Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Jāriyāt (الجَارِيَات): The ships that sail smoothly upon the surface of the sea.
- Yusrā (يُسْرًا): With ease, gentleness, and smoothness — without hardship or difficulty.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah — the Most High — takes a solemn oath by the ships that glide across the oceans with effortless grace, carrying people, goods, and provisions from one land to another. These mighty vessels, moving through the waves with perfect ease and order, are a manifest sign of Allah’s power, wisdom, and mercy. Their smooth journey is not a random accident; rather, it is a testament to the Creator who subjected the sea and the winds to serve humanity, making travel and trade possible for the benefit of all.
This oath draws our attention to the precision and harmony embedded in the natural world. Just as ships sail with ease across the water, so too does Allah’s decree unfold with perfect wisdom and justice. The verse calls upon the believer to reflect: if Allah can make the vast oceans submissive to human vessels, then surely He is capable of bringing about the Resurrection and the Final Account. Nothing is too difficult for the One who commands the winds, the waves, and the heavens.
A Da‘wah Reflection:
Beloved reader, pause and ponder this magnificent scene: a ship cutting through the sea, steady and serene, carrying its passengers to their destination. This is not merely a physical phenomenon — it is a divine lesson. Just as the ship trusts the sea and its Captain, so must you place your trust in Allah, the Most Merciful, who guides you through the storms of life with ease and grace. He has promised that His path leads to eternal success. So sail your life’s journey with faith, patience, and gratitude, knowing that the One who made the oceans smooth for ships will surely make your path to Paradise smooth if you turn to Him sincerely. Let this verse inspire you to see the signs of Allah everywhere — in the movement of ships, the flow of rivers, and the rhythm of your own heartbeat — and to respond with love, obedience, and hope in His infinite mercy.
