Explanation of the Verse:

This magnificent verse unveils four of Allah’s most profound attributes, each one a gateway to deeper faith and serenity. Allah declares: “He is the First and the Last, the Most High and the Innermost, and He is All-Knowing of everything.”

“He is the First” — meaning He exists eternally, with no beginning and nothing before Him. Every created thing came into existence after Him, and He alone is the origin of all that is. This truth fills the believer’s heart with awe, for it reminds us that our existence is a gift from the Eternal One, and that we are utterly dependent on Him.

“And the Last” — meaning He remains forever, with no end and nothing after Him. When the heavens and the earth pass away, when every soul returns to its Lord, and when all that we see crumbles into nothingness, Allah will remain — the Everlasting, the Eternal. This attribute plants in the heart the certainty that our ultimate return is to Him, and that this fleeting world is but a journey toward His eternal presence.

“And the Most High” — meaning He is exalted above all things, with nothing above Him. His majesty encompasses every realm, and all of creation lies beneath His dominion. This elevates the believer’s vision: we do not worship a distant idol or a limited concept, but the Supreme Sovereign Whose throne encompasses the heavens and the earth, and Whose power knows no bounds.

“And the Innermost” — meaning He is near, intimate, and aware of the most hidden secrets, with nothing below Him. Despite His infinite loftiness, He is closer to us than our own jugular vein. He hears the silent whisper, sees the hidden tear, and knows the thoughts that no one else can perceive. This attribute fills the heart with comfort: in our solitude, we are never alone; in our trials, He is with us; in our prayers, He listens.

“And He is All-Knowing of everything” — nothing escapes His knowledge, whether in the heavens or on the earth, whether hidden in the depths of the seas or concealed within the hearts of His servants. The visible and the invisible are equal before His perfect knowledge.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, let this verse be a lantern for your soul. When you feel lost in the vastness of existence, remember that the First has no beginning — so your origin is in His hands. When you fear the end of your days, remember that the Last has no end — so your destiny rests with Him. When the world overwhelms you with its noise, remember that the Most High is above all — so raise your hopes to Him alone. And when you feel lonely in the dark of night, remember that the Innermost is with you — so pour your heart out to Him, for He hears and knows.

This is the beauty of Islam: a Lord Who is both transcendent and intimate, both majestic and merciful. He is not far that you cannot reach Him, nor near that you can comprehend Him. He is the First and the Last, the Most High and the Innermost — and He knows everything about you. So turn to Him with trust, worship Him with sincerity, and find peace in His remembrance. Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.

📜 Verse 1-5 — Al-Hadid

Whatever is in the heavens and earth exalts Allah, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent.
He is the First and the Last, the Ascendant and the Intimate, and He is, of all things, Knowing.
It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein; and He is with you wherever you are. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.
His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. And to Allah are returned [all] matters.
