📖 English Meaning
It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein; and He is with you wherever you are. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.

Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Istawa 'ala al-'Arsh" (استوى على العرش): Rose above and established Himself upon the Throne in a manner that befits His majesty and greatness—without any resemblance to His creation.
  • "Yaliju" (يلج): What enters and penetrates into the earth, such as rain, seeds, and the dead.
  • "Ya'ruju" (يعرج): What ascends and rises up into the sky, such as the angels, the souls of the deceased, and the deeds of mankind.
  • "Ma'akum" (معكم): With you—meaning His complete knowledge and encompassing power, not His physical presence within His creation.

The Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse opens a window into the magnificent reality of Allah's absolute sovereignty and intimate knowledge. It begins by declaring that He alone is the Creator of the heavens and the earth and everything between them, having brought them into existence in six days—though He is fully capable of creating them in the blink of an eye. This is not a sign of limitation, but rather a demonstration of His perfect wisdom and deliberate order. Then, He rose above the Throne in a manner that suits His divine majesty, far beyond any human comprehension or comparison.

The verse then draws our attention to His all-encompassing knowledge, which leaves nothing hidden from Him. He knows every single thing that penetrates into the earth—from the falling raindrops that nourish the soil, to the seeds buried beneath the ground, to the bodies of the deceased laid to rest. He knows everything that emerges from the earth—from the sprouting plants and abundant harvests, to the minerals and treasures buried within its depths. He knows what descends from the sky—from the life-giving rain, to the divine revelation sent to His prophets, to the angels carrying out His commands. And He knows what ascends into the sky—from the angels rising with their duties, to the souls of the departed, to the deeds of His servants, whether they be righteous or otherwise.

Then comes the most comforting and awe-inspiring statement: "And He is with you wherever you are." This is not a physical presence, for Allah is far above His creation, but rather His knowledge, His power, and His watchful care encompass every single one of His servants in every corner of the earth. Whether you are in the depths of a valley, on the peak of a mountain, in the solitude of the night, or in the midst of a bustling crowd—He is with you, fully aware of your state, your struggles, and your innermost thoughts.

The verse concludes with a profound reminder: "And Allah is All-Seeing of what you do." Nothing escapes His sight—not the smallest deed, not the most hidden intention, not even a whisper of the heart. Every action, every word, every thought is recorded before Him, and He will reward or recompense each soul with perfect justice.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, let this verse fill your heart with both tranquility and accountability. The One who created the vast heavens and the earth is the very One who is with you in your solitude, who knows your silent prayers, who sees your hidden struggles, and who witnesses every step you take. How beautiful is this relationship! You are never alone, never forgotten, never unseen. So let this awareness transform your life—let it give you comfort in times of hardship, strength in times of weakness, and a constant reminder to choose righteousness in every moment. For the All-Seeing, All-Knowing Lord is not only watching over you—He is with you, wherever you may be.
