Tafsir (Explanation):
O you who have truly believed in Allah and His Messenger and committed yourselves to His guidance! Be ever mindful of Allah — let His awareness fill your hearts, and let that consciousness drive you to obey His commands and abandon whatever He has prohibited. This is the essence of taqwā: a protective shield of piety that guards you from His displeasure and punishment.
Then comes a profound call to self-accountability: "Let every soul look to what it has sent forward for tomorrow." This is a beautiful and urgent invitation to pause, reflect, and audit your own life before the Day when no excuse will avail you. Ask yourself: What have I prepared for the Day of Judgment? Have I accumulated good deeds — prayers, charity, kindness, honesty, patience — or have I burdened myself with sins and negligence? This life is the only field of cultivation; the harvest is in the Hereafter. Just as a farmer reaps what he sows, you will meet exactly what you have sent ahead. So be wise, and invest in what will benefit you when you stand before your Lord.
The command to fear Allah is repeated — "And fear Allah" — to emphasize its importance and to remind you that this consciousness must be continuous and unwavering, not merely a momentary feeling. It is a call to make taqwā the compass of your entire existence, in every action, word, and intention.
The verse concludes with a powerful reassurance and warning: "Indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do." Nothing escapes His knowledge — not the smallest secret, not the most hidden intention, not a single deed done in the darkness of night or the light of day. He knows it all, and He will reward or recompense you accordingly. This is not meant to frighten you into despair, but to awaken you to the reality that your life has meaning and purpose, and that every moment is an opportunity to draw closer to Him.
Dear believer, let this verse be a daily mirror for your soul. Before you sleep each night, reflect: What have I sent forward for my tomorrow? Have I brought joy to a heart, relieved a burden, sought knowledge, or forgiven someone? These are the treasures that will greet you in your grave and on the Day of Rising. Seize this moment — for tomorrow is nearer than you think, and Allah's mercy is vast for those who turn back to Him sincerely. May He make us among those who look to their deeds and find them pleasing, and who meet Him with hearts at peace.
