Explanation of the Verse:
O believers, Allah commands you to abstain from eating any meat upon which His name was not mentioned at the time of slaughter. This includes animals that died naturally (carrion), those sacrificed to idols, jinn, or any false deity, and anything dedicated to other than Allah. Eating such meat is not merely a dietary matter—it is an act of fisq, a clear departure from obedience to Allah and a violation of His sacred law.
The verse then unveils a subtle and dangerous plot: the devils among the jinn continuously whisper to their human allies—the polytheists and skeptics—feeding them deceptive arguments to use against you, the believers. They coach them to say: "How is it that you eat what you slaughter with your own hands, yet you refuse to eat what Allah Himself has killed (i.e., carrion)?" This twisted logic is designed to confuse you and weaken your resolve. They try to make the forbidden seem permissible and the permissible seem strange.
Allah warns you clearly: if you listen to them and accept their arguments, if you yield to their reasoning and begin to permit what Allah has forbidden, then you have effectively followed them into shirk (associating partners with Allah). This is because true obedience to Allah means accepting His rulings wholly—without picking and choosing based on human whims or the whispers of devils. Whoever legalizes what Allah has prohibited or prohibits what Allah has legalized has placed his own judgment or the judgment of others above the command of Allah, and that is a form of shirk.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse is a profound reminder of the mercy and wisdom behind Allah's dietary laws. He does not forbid you from good things to restrict you, but to purify your soul, protect your body, and distinguish you as a community devoted to His worship alone. Every bite you take can be an act of worship when you remember His name and follow His commands. The devils will never stop trying to blur the lines between truth and falsehood, but Allah has given you the clarity of the Qur'an and the guidance of His Messenger (peace be upon him). Hold firmly to this guidance, and you will never be deceived. Let your obedience to Allah be complete, for in that completeness lies your honor, your peace, and your salvation. And know that the one who submits fully to Allah in all matters—great and small—is the true believer, while the one who compromises His laws has taken a step toward associating partners with Him. Choose the path of pure monotheism, and you will find success in this life and the next.
