- Azagha Allahu quloobahum (أَزَاغَ اللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ): Allah caused their hearts to swerve from guidance—a just recompense for their deliberate straying.

Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah—glorified and exalted—directs His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to remind his people of a profound lesson from the story of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him). Moses addressed his own people, the Children of Israel, with a tone of sorrowful bewilderment: *"O my people, why do you harm me when you certainly know that I am the Messenger of Allah to you?"*
The harm they inflicted upon him was not trivial—it included mocking him, accusing him falsely, and stubbornly opposing his commands despite their full knowledge that he was indeed Allah's chosen messenger to them. Their own hearts testified to his truthfulness, yet their tongues and actions contradicted that inner conviction. A messenger of Allah deserves nothing but honor, obedience, and love; yet they repaid his sincere efforts with injury and rejection.
Then comes the severe consequence: *"But when they deviated, Allah caused their hearts to deviate."* This is a profound principle—when people knowingly turn away from the truth, Allah abandons them to their own misguidance as a just punishment. Their hearts, which once could have received guidance, became sealed and hardened. This is not an injustice from Allah; rather, it is the natural result of their own persistent choice to reject what they knew to be true.
The verse concludes with a decisive statement: *"And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people."* Those who persist in sin and rebellion, who know the truth yet turn away from it, are deprived of Allah's guiding light—not because Allah withholds it arbitrarily, but because their own hearts have become unfit to receive it.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse carries a timeless warning for every believer. How often do we know the right path, yet choose to harm those who guide us toward it? How often do we recognize the truth, yet allow our desires to pull us away? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) faced similar harm from his own people, just as Moses did—yet both remained patient and steadfast.
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. Do not let knowledge become a witness against you on the Day of Judgment. When you know the truth, embrace it with sincerity and humility. Honor those who call you to Allah, and never repay their kindness with harm. For if you deviate after knowing the truth, your heart may become sealed—and who can guide a heart that Allah has turned away from guidance?
Seek Allah's mercy while the door of repentance is still open. Turn to Him before your heart hardens, and ask Him to keep your heart firm upon His religion. For indeed, the greatest loss is to know the truth, yet lose it forever.
