Tafsir (Explanation):
In this noble verse, Allah commands His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to remind his people of a profound moment in history – when Jesus, son of Mary (ʿĪsā ibn Maryam), peace be upon him, stood before the Children of Israel and declared his prophetic mission. He addressed them with the words: "O Children of Israel, I am the Messenger of Allah to you."
Jesus did not come with a message that contradicted what preceded him. Rather, he came confirming the Torah that was revealed before him – affirming its core truths, its monotheistic call, and its divine origin. He was not a novelty among the messengers, nor did he bring a religion detached from the chain of divine guidance. Instead, he was a link in that blessed chain, upholding what came before while preparing the way for what was to come.
Then comes the most remarkable part of his message: Jesus gave glad tidings of a messenger who would come after him, whose name is Aḥmad – and that is Muhammad ﷺ, the final and greatest of all prophets. Jesus was not merely informing them of a future event; he was calling them to believe in this coming messenger, to prepare for his arrival, and to be among his earliest supporters. This was a test of their sincerity – would they follow the truth even when it came through someone other than themselves?
Yet when Muhammad ﷺ did come to them with clear proofs and undeniable miracles, what was their response? They said: "This is manifest sorcery!" They did not say this out of genuine confusion or honest doubt. They said it out of arrogance, stubbornness, and the fear of losing their status and worldly interests. The truth was clear as day, but their hearts were sealed by pride.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse. Here is Jesus, a mighty prophet of Allah, openly announcing the coming of Muhammad ﷺ and commanding his followers to believe in him. This is not a matter of mere historical curiosity – it is a divine testimony to the truth of Islam and the prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ.
If you are a Muslim, this verse strengthens your faith and fills your heart with gratitude. You belong to a faith that was prophesied by the messengers before you, a faith that completes and perfects all that came before it. Let this knowledge increase your love for Jesus and all the prophets, and let it deepen your commitment to following Muhammad ﷺ with sincerity and devotion.
If you are a seeker of truth, let this verse be a light for your path. The continuity of divine revelation – from Moses to Jesus to Muhammad – peace be upon them all – is a clear sign that this religion is from Allah. The prophets did not contradict one another; they confirmed and complemented each other's messages. And the final message, Islam, is the complete and universal guidance for all of humanity until the end of time.
Do not be like those who saw the clear signs and still turned away, saying "this is magic." Open your heart to the truth, and you will find in Islam the peace, purpose, and salvation your soul longs for. The door of repentance is open, and Allah's mercy encompasses all things. Come to the truth before it is too late, and be among those who believed, followed, and succeeded.
