Word Meanings:

(Al-Khati'un): Those who deliberately commit sins and errors, particularly those who persist in disbelief and wrongdoing. It refers to people who intentionally stray from the path of truth, not those who err unintentionally.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the description of the punishment awaiting the wicked on the Day of Judgment. After mentioning that the disbeliever will have no close friend or intercessor to shield him from torment, and that his only food will be the filthy, putrid discharge from the wounds of the people of Hell (ghislin), Allah clarifies that this dreadful food is reserved exclusively for the sinful.

The word "khati'un" here specifically denotes those who deliberately and persistently commit sins, especially the gravest sin of all—disbelief in Allah and rejection of His messengers. These are the people who, despite clear signs and warnings, chose to follow their desires and turn away from the truth. Their food in Hell will match their deeds: just as they indulged in forbidden things in this world without remorse, they will be forced to consume this repulsive substance in the Hereafter.

This verse serves as a stark reminder that the punishment is perfectly suited to the crime. Those who knowingly and willfully disobeyed Allah will face a consequence that reflects their stubbornness and arrogance. It also distinguishes between those who err unintentionally—who may be forgiven through repentance and Allah's mercy—and those who persist in wrongdoing with full awareness, sealing their fate.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse is not merely a description of a distant future event; it is a wake-up call for every soul. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has warned us clearly so that we may turn back to Him before it is too late. The door of repentance is open until the moment of death. No matter how great your sins may be, Allah's forgiveness is greater. Do not let the whispers of Shaytan convince you that you are beyond redemption.

Imagine standing before your Lord on that Day with no one to help you, and your only food being that which is too foul to even describe. But now, while you still have breath in your lungs, you have the chance to change your destiny. Embrace the truth of Islam, purify your heart, and strive to obey Allah in all that you do. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Allah accepts the repentance of His servant as long as the soul has not reached the throat."

Let this verse inspire you to be among those who are saved, not among those who are lost. Choose righteousness over sin, and you will taste, instead of that foul food, the delights of Paradise that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever conceived. May Allah guide us all to the straight path and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

📜 Verse 35-39 — Al-Haqqah

So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
None will eat it except the sinners.
So I swear by what you see
And what you do not see
