Tafsir (Explanation):
This noble verse establishes a profound and sacred principle: all mosques — the houses of Allah on earth — belong exclusively to Him, and they are built for one purpose only: the pure worship of Allah alone, without any partner or associate. Therefore, when you enter a mosque, let your heart be filled with sincerity, and direct your prayers, supplications, and acts of devotion solely to Allah — do not call upon anyone else alongside Him, whether it be a prophet, a saint, an angel, or any created being.
The verse serves as a powerful reminder that mosques are not merely buildings of brick and stone; they are sanctuaries of tawhid (monotheism), where the Oneness of Allah is proclaimed and practiced. Just as the Kaaba was built for the worship of the One God, every mosque on earth carries the same sacred purpose. This is why the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that when entering a mosque, we should say: "O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy," and when leaving: "O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty" — always addressing Allah alone.
This command also implies the obligation to keep mosques pure and free from anything that compromises this sincerity — whether it be shirk (associating partners with Allah), innovations in worship, or worldly distractions that detract from the remembrance of Allah. The verse gently warns us against falling into the ways of those who came before, who turned their places of worship into centers of polytheism and divided devotion.
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear believer, imagine the honor Allah has bestowed upon you: He has given you a place on earth that He calls His own, where you can stand before Him, speak to Him, and pour out your heart to Him at any time. The mosque is your spiritual home, a refuge from the noise of the world, a garden of peace where the angels descend and mercy envelops you. When you enter a mosque, you are a guest of the Most Merciful — so let your tongue be moist with His remembrance, your heart focused on His greatness, and your hands raised only to Him. This is the beauty of Islam: a direct, unmediated connection between you and your Creator, with no intermediaries, no priests, no saints to intercede — just you and Allah, in the purest form of worship. Cherish this gift, protect the sanctity of the mosques, and let every prostration in them be a testimony that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah alone.
