Surah Al-Qiyamah — Verse 24

• Bāsiratun (بَاسِرَةٌ): Frowning, grim, gloomy, or scowling — a face that is contracted and darkened with distress and sorrow.

Explanation of the Verse:

On that tremendous Day of Resurrection, while the faces of the believers will be radiant, shining with joy and delight, the faces of the disbelievers and the wretched will be utterly grim and frowning. Their expressions will be darkened by despair, their brows contracted in anguish, and their features twisted in a scowl of utter misery. These faces will be filled with the anticipation of a catastrophic calamity — a punishment so severe that it will break the very spines of their backs. The gloom on their faces will reflect the terror in their hearts, as they realize the inevitable fate that awaits them for their rejection of the truth and their persistence in sin.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause for a moment and imagine that scene — faces that once laughed at the truth, mocked the messengers, and indulged in heedlessness, now frozen in a mask of eternal sorrow. This vivid description is not meant to frighten you for its own sake, but to awaken your heart before it is too late. The Qur'an paints this picture so that you may turn back to your Lord while the door of repentance is still open. Today, your face can be one of those radiant, joyful faces on that Day — if you choose to believe, to worship your Creator, and to live a life of righteousness. The choice is yours, and the time is now. Do not let the fleeting pleasures of this world rob you of the eternal bliss of the Hereafter. Embrace Islam with a sincere heart, and let your face shine with the light of faith both in this life and in the life to come.
