Surah Al-Qiyamah — Verse 7

• Bariqa (بَرِقَ): The eyes become dazzled, bewildered, and fixed in a stare — unable to blink or look away — due to overwhelming terror and astonishment.
• Al-Basar (الْبَصَر): The sight or vision of the eye.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the Day of Resurrection arrives and the horrors of that moment unfold, the eyes of every human being will become frozen in utter shock and bewilderment. The gaze will be fixed, unable to blink, as the mind struggles to comprehend the magnitude of what is unfolding before it. This is the moment when every soul — whether believer or disbeliever — will witness with their own eyes the realities they once doubted or denied. The sight will be so overwhelmed by the terrifying scenes that it will lose its natural function, staring blankly in sheer awe and dread.

At that moment, the moon will lose its light, and the sun and moon will be gathered together in darkness — no light remaining from either. The heavens will be torn apart, and the earth will be shaken to its core. In this state of absolute panic and helplessness, the human being will cry out: "Where is the escape? Where can I flee from this punishment?" But there will be no refuge, no hiding place, and no protector on that Day except Allah, the Almighty.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that the Hereafter is certain and near. The eyes that today look upon the world with pride and heedlessness will one day be frozen in terror. Let this be a call to every soul: prepare for that Day before it arrives, when no excuse will be accepted and no return will be possible. The Qur'an awakens our hearts to the reality that this worldly life is but a fleeting moment, while the Hereafter is eternal. Turn to your Lord in repentance and good deeds now, so that when that Day comes, you may be among those whose faces are radiant with joy — not among those whose eyes are frozen in horror.
