Word Meanings:
- "Khasaafa" (خَسَفَ): It means the loss of light, dimming, or eclipsing. When applied to the moon, it signifies its light vanishing or being obscured entirely.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Resurrection, the moon will lose its light completely. Its brightness will be swallowed up by darkness, leaving it dim and lifeless in the sky. This is not merely a temporary eclipse but a permanent extinguishing of its radiance as part of the cosmic upheaval that marks the end of this world. The moon, which has been a source of gentle light for humanity throughout the ages, will be rendered dark and powerless, signaling the total collapse of the familiar order of the universe. This event is a sign of the immense terror and transformation that will overwhelm all of creation, as every celestial body is stripped of its function and beauty before the majesty of Allah.
Reflection and Da'wah:
This vivid imagery serves as a powerful reminder of the fleeting nature of this world. The moon, which seems so constant and reliable in our nightly skies, will one day be extinguished in an instant. How then can we place our trust in anything other than the Eternal, the Everlasting? The Quran calls upon us to reflect on these signs and to prepare for the Day when all that we know will change beyond recognition. Let this verse awaken your heart to the reality of the Hereafter, urging you to turn to Allah in sincere repentance and good deeds, for only His mercy and guidance can illuminate our path through the darkness of that Day. The One who dims the moon with a single command is the same One who invites you to His forgiveness—so hasten to Him before that inevitable hour arrives.
