Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- تُوعَدُونَ (tu'adoon): That which you are promised — referring to the Day of Resurrection, the Reckoning, and the Recompense.
- لَوَاقِعٌ (lawāqi'): Certainly befalling, inevitably occurring, undeniably coming to pass.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah — the Exalted — declares with absolute certainty that everything He has promised His servants is true and will undoubtedly come to pass. The promise here encompasses the resurrection of all creation from their graves, the gathering of humanity for judgment, the weighing of deeds, and the final recompense — whether Paradise for the righteous or Hellfire for the wicked.
This statement is not a mere possibility or a distant hope; it is an established reality that will occur without any doubt or delay. The word "lawāqi'" (لَوَاقِعٌ) carries the sense of something that is descending upon you and will inevitably strike — like a decree that has already been issued and cannot be revoked.
The verse serves as a decisive answer to those who doubted or denied the Day of Judgment. It removes all ambiguity: what Allah has promised will happen, whether people believe it or not. The certainty of this promise is rooted in Allah's perfect justice and wisdom — He does not create humanity in vain, nor does He leave them without purpose or accountability.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, contemplate the beauty of this divine assurance. The One who made this promise is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the One whose word is truth and whose promise never fails. When Allah — the Most Merciful — promises His believing servants Paradise, gardens beneath which rivers flow, and eternal bliss in His presence, then this promise is more certain than anything we experience in this worldly life.
And when He warns the disbelievers and the wrongdoers of a painful punishment, that warning is equally certain. This verse invites you to reflect: if the Day of Judgment is an absolute reality, then how should you live today? The wise person is the one who prepares for that inevitable meeting with their Lord — through sincere faith, righteous deeds, and turning back to Allah in repentance.
Let this certainty fill your heart with hope and motivation, not fear and despair. For Allah's promise to the believers is one of mercy, forgiveness, and eternal success. The same Lord who promised the Day of Judgment also promised that His mercy encompasses all things — and He has opened the door of repentance wide for every soul who wishes to return to Him before that Day arrives. Seize this opportunity, for the promise is true, and the time to act is now.
