Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Kallā (كَلَّا): A strong Arabic particle of negation and rebuke, meaning "No indeed!" or "Absolutely not!" It serves as a decisive refutation of the claims of the disbelievers.
- Saya'lamūn (سَيَعْلَمُونَ): "They will soon know" — a future tense verb indicating that the knowledge of the consequences will inevitably come to them, whether in this world or the Hereafter.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a direct and powerful response to the disbelievers who questioned the reality of the Resurrection and the Day of Judgment, mocking the message of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Allah says: "No indeed! They will soon know."
The meaning is that these polytheists, who deny the Quran and the truth of the resurrection, are not as they claim — that there is no life after death or that the Quran is mere fabrication. Rather, they will soon come to realize the bitter outcome of their denial. This is a stern warning and a threat, assuring them that the truth they reject will become undeniably clear to them. They will witness the consequences of their disbelief with their own eyes, either at the moment of death, in the grave, or on the Day of Judgment, when they will face the punishment they once mocked. The repetition of the warning in the following verse ("Again, no indeed! They will soon know") emphasizes the certainty of this promise and doubles the severity of the admonition.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul: the truth of Allah's promise is absolute, and no amount of denial can alter it. For the believer, it is a source of reassurance — that falsehood, no matter how loud or confident, will inevitably be exposed and vanquished. For the one who hesitates or doubts, it is a loving yet firm invitation to reflect: why wait until the truth becomes undeniable, when the path of faith offers peace, purpose, and salvation? The Quran does not merely threaten; it awakens. It calls you to open your heart before the inevitable becomes your reality. Embrace the truth now, and let this warning be a mercy that guides you to the everlasting success of Paradise, rather than a witness against you on the Day you will surely know.
