Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Mulk (مُلْكُ): Absolute ownership, sovereignty, and dominion.
- Shahīd (شَهِيد): Witness, observer, fully aware and present over all things, nothing escaping His knowledge.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse describes the One who alone possesses the absolute sovereignty of the heavens and the earth — everything within them, above them, and between them is under His complete control and authority. He is the Owner and Ruler of all creation, with no partner or associate in His dominion.
Then the verse emphasizes that Allah is a Witness over all things. This means He sees, hears, and knows every single action, word, and hidden thought of His creation. Nothing — whether great or small, secret or public — is hidden from His knowledge. He is fully present and aware of everything that happens at every moment.
This statement serves a dual purpose:
- A warning to the oppressors — those who tortured the believers (the people of the ditch, as mentioned in the preceding verses) should know that Allah witnessed their cruelty and injustice. He saw every act of persecution, and He will hold them fully accountable for it.
- A comfort to the believers — those who were persecuted for their faith should find solace in knowing that Allah witnessed their patience, their sacrifice, and their steadfastness. Their suffering was not unseen; their reward is guaranteed with the One who misses nothing.
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this profound truth: the King of the heavens and the earth is watching over you. When you feel alone in your struggles, remember that the Most High sees your efforts. When you are tempted to sin in secret, remember that the Witness over all things observes you. This awareness of Allah's constant presence is the foundation of sincere faith — it purifies the heart, elevates the soul, and connects you to your Creator in every moment. Let this knowledge fill you with hope, for the One who owns everything is capable of granting you everything. And let it fill you with reverence, for the One who witnesses everything will judge everything with perfect justice. There is no greater honor than to live your life in the presence of such a Lord — so strive to make your actions worthy of His sight, and you will find His mercy and reward beyond your imagination.
