Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Akhraja (أَخْرَجَ): Brought forth, caused to emerge, or produced.
  • Al-Mar'a (الْمَرْعَىٰ): Pasture, green herbage, or vegetation that livestock graze upon.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Allah draws our attention to yet another sign of His infinite power and mercy: He is the One who brings forth the pasture from the earth. He causes the seeds to sprout, the stems to rise, and the leaves to unfold, all through His command and wisdom. The vegetation that emerges is not random—it is precisely designed to nourish and sustain the animals that graze upon it, which in turn sustain human life through milk, meat, and labor.

This is a profound reminder of the delicate balance in creation. The same earth that appears dry and lifeless can, at His will, burst forth with lush greenery. And just as He brings it forth, He also causes it to wither and become dry stubble—a cycle that repeats itself season after season, generation after generation. This cycle is not merely a natural phenomenon; it is a living lesson for humanity. It teaches us about the transience of this world, the inevitability of change, and the ultimate return to Allah.

When you reflect on this verse, let it fill your heart with gratitude. The food on your table, the milk you drink, the very air you breathe—all of it is a gift from the Most Merciful. He did not create these blessings because He needed to, but out of His boundless love for His creation. So, when you see a green field or a grazing animal, let it remind you of His generosity and His power. Let it draw you closer to Him, the One who provides for all, and who alone deserves your worship and praise.

This verse also carries a gentle call to faith: if Allah can bring life out of the dead earth, then He is certainly capable of bringing the dead out of their graves on the Day of Resurrection. The One who created this intricate system of growth and decay is the same One who will recreate you, and He has promised that He will. So, do not let your heart be attached to this fleeting world; instead, turn to the One who controls it all, and strive for the eternal life that awaits you.
