Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Qaddara (قَدَّرَ): He measured, ordained, and determined the precise nature, qualities, and destiny of everything in creation.
- Fahadā (فَهَدَىٰ): Then He guided — He directed each creature to what suits its purpose, survival, and benefit.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse continues the opening of Surah Al-A'la, where Allah commands His Messenger to glorify the Name of his Lord, the Most High. After mentioning that Allah created all things and perfected their form, the verse now highlights two further acts of divine perfection: measurement and guidance.
Allah has decreed for every created being its specific characteristics, its lifespan, its sustenance, and its role in the grand scheme of existence. Nothing is left to chance or chaos. He has set precise measures for the vastness of the universe, the orbit of planets, the growth of plants, the instincts of animals, and the nature of every soul. Then, in His infinite mercy, He guided each creature to what is appropriate for it: the bee is inspired to build its hive, the ant to gather its food, the newborn to seek its mother's breast, and the human being to reason, choose, and seek knowledge. Even the inanimate elements follow the laws He has placed within them.
This verse carries a profound lesson for humanity: just as Allah has guided every creature to its benefit, He has also guided mankind through revelation, prophets, and the innate disposition (fitrah) to know their Creator and worship Him alone. The One who measured the universe and guided the ant to its food is the same One who sent down the Qur'an to guide the human heart to salvation. Therefore, true success lies in submitting to this divine guidance and aligning one's will with the will of the One who knows what is best for every soul.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Reflect, dear reader, on the precision of your own creation — the beating of your heart without your command, the digestion of your food without your effort, the guidance of your instincts toward survival. The same Lord who manages all of this has not left you without direction in your spiritual journey. He has sent you His Book, His Messenger, and the clear signs in creation. When you feel lost, remember: the One who measured the stars and guided the birds to their nests is fully capable of guiding your heart to peace and your life to purpose. Turn to Him, and you will find that His guidance is the most fitting and perfect for you — just as He has guided every creature to what suits it best.
