Translation — Tafsir
On the Day of Judgment, the gold and silver that were hoarded will be heated in the fire of Hell until they become intensely hot. Then these molten treasures will be pressed against the foreheads of those who amassed them, and against their sides and their backs, searing their skin as a punishment for their greed. It will be said to them in rebuke: "This is the wealth you stored up for yourselves, refusing to give what was due to Allah from it. Now taste the painful consequence of what you used to hoard!"
This verse serves as a powerful reminder that wealth is a trust from Allah, not an end in itself. When we are blessed with provisions, we must remember that a portion of it belongs to the poor and needy, and to the causes that uphold justice and compassion. Hoarding wealth while neglecting these obligations is not merely a missed opportunity for reward—it becomes a source of spiritual harm that will manifest in the Hereafter. The imagery of heated treasure burning the very body parts that once took pride in accumulating it is a profound lesson: what we cling to in this world can become the very thing that torments us in the next. Let this inspire us to purify our wealth through charity, to open our hands generously, and to invest in what truly lasts—deeds of righteousness that will meet us with light on that Day, rather than fire. The Qur'an calls us to be people of balance, enjoying what Allah has provided while sharing it freely, so that our wealth becomes a means of nearness to Him rather than a barrier.
It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although they who associate others with Allah dislike it.
O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert [them] from the way of Allah. And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah - give them tidings of a painful punishment.
The Day when it will be heated in the fire of Hell and seared therewith will be their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, [it will be said], "This is what you hoarded for yourselves, so taste what you used to hoard."
Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous [who fear Him].
Indeed, the postponing [of restriction within sacred months] is an increase in disbelief by which those who have disbelieved are led [further] astray. They make it lawful one year and unlawful another year to correspond to the number made unlawful by Allah and [thus] make lawful what Allah has made unlawful. Made pleasing to them is the evil of their deeds; and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.
